Japan's new vehicle sales in April fell 2.7 percent year-on-year to 265,454 units, marking the eighth straight monthly decline and a two-year low, an industry association said yesterday. "As before the continuing slump in the economy is affecting sales of automobiles," said a spokesman for the Japan Automobile Dealers Association. Sales fell 50 percent from a month earlier to a level below that set in April 2000 of 268,259 units.
Passenger car sales rose 6 percent from a year ago to 212,189 units, while truck sales plummeted 27 percent to 52,017 units.
