Matchmaker
A worker checks matches on a powdering machine at a factory in Xi'an in northwestern China's Shaanxi Province on Tuesday. The factory is currently the only manufacturer of matches in Xi'an, and most of its workers had been laid off by the former state-owned Xi'an Matches Factory. The business is operating on a very thin profit margin, as 1,000 boxes of matches are sold for 35 yuan (US$4.32).
