Huddled masses, yearning for lamps

Malaysians queue in overlapping lines to enter the Swedish furniture store IKEA on its opening day in Kuala Lumpur, yesterday. More than a thousand eager shoppers queued for almost four hours to visit IKEA, the largest in Asia at 35,811m2 and costing 180 million ringgit (US$47.4 million). The store houses over 7,000 furnishings, 500 workers, 2,000 parking spaces and 26 checkout counters.Aug 15, 2003
