French BNP Paribas SA and Credit Agricole SA are among the financial institutions that lent money to Carlyle Capital Corp (CCC), which on Thursday said it defaulted on about US$16.6 billion in debt.

BNP, France's largest bank, had US$576 million of exposure on Dec. 31, while Calyon, the investment bank unit of Credit Agricole, had US$1.4 billion through repurchase agreements, the mortgage fund's annual report showed.

Other listed in the annual report include Citigroup Inc and Deutsche Bank AG.
