Dining in Singapore gets cheaper as economy sags

AFP , SINGAPORE

Celebrating Christmas and ushering in the New Year at a posh restaurant in Singapore will be a cheaper affair this year, the Sunday Times reported.

A number of high-end dining outlets in the city-state, whose economic recovery is showing signs of fragility, have reduced the prices of their menus for the festive season, the report said.

Rahman Lal, manager at Restaurant 360 at the upmarket One Fullerton area on the fringe of the financial district, said the eatery's six-course New Year's Eve dinner had been reduced by more than 50 percent.

For US$98 per person, one can feast on oysters, goose liver and yabbie tails with champagne at Restaurant 360 compared with US$198 last year.

"After the Bali bomb attacks, there was a drastic drop in the number of expatriates and tourists," Lal said.
