Europe's economy has hit the brakes as stock markets dive and fears of war against Iraq mount, analysts said Wednesday.
The European Commission published new indicators Wednesday showing a worsening economic outlook in Germany, Britain, France, Spain and the Netherlands.
"Although the overall path has been gently decreasing over the last four months, the high volatility suggests some ambiguity in the assessment of the current economic situation," it said.
Manufacturers are above all worried that a sudden slowdown will leave them with mountains of unsold stocks.
