The Coca-Cola Co said Friday that it would give the packaging of its flagship Coke Classic brand a makeover early next year.

The design, which will appear on all Coke Classic cans, bottles and cardboard packaging, returns to the dynamic ribbon the company first used in 1969. The ribbon, which has been updated to include condensation bubbles that float around text on Coke's traditional red background, looks like a cross between a multilayered swirl and an infinity symbol. Most of the layers of the ribbon are white, but the pattern will also include a thread of yellow.

"We're refreshing it to remain relevant to today's consumers," said Kelly Brooks, a Coke spokesman.

On the new packaging, the inscription "Enjoy Coca-Cola Classic" has been replaced by just "Coca-Cola." The text still appears in the familiar Coke script.

In addition to the graphic design changes, Coke Classic's 20-ounce plastic bottle will be reconfigured to include raised condensation droplets on the outside of the bottle.

Brooks also said the company would redesign its Diet Coke and caffeine-free brands some time next year.
