Fed seen cutting rates again
The data will be taken into account by the Federal Reserve's policy making committee at its next meeting on Dec. 11. Many economists are expecting the central bank to cut rates a further quarter percentage point at that meeting.
This view was given extra backing this week from Fed Governor Laurence Mayer, who said it would be a "misguided" tactic for the Fed to sit back and relax just yet.
The Fed has already cut interest rates 10 times this year in an attempt to reinvigorate the economy. Three of those cuts have come after the Sept. 11 attacks.
