IBM plans to announce on Monday that its Global Services arm will jointly market a package of security services with Kroll, a New York company that specializes in the protection of corporate assets.
Rusine Mitchell-Sinclair, the new general manager of IBM's two-year-old security practice, said that IBM is also refocusing on security planning and support for large companies in specific sectors, like airlines and financial services. It will continue to market a range of products that provide security to particular computer systems or corporate departments.
"Security has become the top issue for our customers," said Mitchell-Sinclair, a 49-year-old executive who until recently was general manager of IBM's Web-hosting business.
IBM said that it is also setting up a new corporate office called Global Security Solutions to provide guidance to customers and IBM business units on government regulations that will affect security and new technology.
