Fresh discoveries of anthrax exposure in the US yesterday pumped up shares of anthrax vaccine makers and antibiotic producers in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and India.

Shares of Japan's Meiji Seika Kaisha Ltd surged 10.7 percent yesterday morning, its fourth consecutive session of gains.

The company said its prescription drug Viccillin, also known as Ampicillin, has proved effective in treating anthrax, which normally strikes livestock.

South Korea's Chongkundang went limit up to 3,580 won yesterday. Other pharmaceutical shares jumping by the 15 percent daily limit included Kukje Pharm and Handok Pharm

In Taiwan, China Chemical (¤¤¤Æ) rose the daily 7 percent limit to NT$7.15. It makes antibiotics wholly for domestic consumption, a company spokesman said.

Standard Chem & Pharm (¥Í¹F) was also limit up at NT$22.8. It makes circulatory and respiratory system drugs.
