Legend's share of Asian PC market growing, IDC says

Legend Holdings Ltd increased its share of the Asian personal computer market in the second quarter, even as overall sales in the region stalled from the first quarter, International Data Corp said.

Second-quarter sales at Asia's largest PC maker rose 2 percent from the previous three months, taking Legend's share in the region to 12.1 percent, almost double that of nearest rival International Business Machines Corp, according to IDC.

"Global weakness is dragging on longer than expected, making everyone more cautious in their spending," said Davina Yeo, an IDC analyst.

In Asia, Compaq Computer Corp overtook Samsung Elecronics Co as the region's third-largest PC seller. Samsung's shipments dropped 14.5 percent from a year ago, and Trigem Computer Inc.'s shipments fell 18.2 percent, IDC said.
