Compaq had 71,300 full time permanent employees as of March 31. With Tuesday's announcement, Compaq is reducing its employee count to 62,800.
Compaq has succeeded at its previously announced plan of reducing its inventory levels in the past quarter by US$200 million and that of its distributors by an additional US$400 million, Clarke said.
