He also pointed to Canon's strength in lenses and other components as an advantage in digital cameras. He said Canon took its time -- two years -- to develop a customized signal processing chip to drive its entire lineup.
"That's an extremely important component and we designed the systems and circuits in-house," he said. "Without it, we couldn't bring out our greatest strength in our digital cameras."
Hosoe also suggested that Canon's trump card could be its brand, which was inspired in the mid-1930s by the Buddhist goddess of mercy, Kannon.
"Canon's been doing cameras for 63 years," he said.
