Siemens AG, which is jointly developing a third-generation mobile phone standard with a Chinese research academy, said trials of the technology last month in Beijing were successful.
"The project is indeed making very good progress, and I am very proud to report the first public demonstration of TD-SCDMA with wireless data transmission took place successfully in Beijing this April," Ernst Behrens, chief executive of Siemens Ltd, China, said in speech at a Beijing technology conference.
Siemens and the Chinese Academy of Telecommunications Technology are jointly testing time-division synchronous code-division multiple-access, or TD-SCDMA technology, in a bid to develop a standard to compete with wideband-CDMA, which will be used by NTT DoCoMo Inc in Japan, and with Qualcomm Inc's CDMA2000 standard.
