An image provided by the Alaska Volcano Observatory shows the Pavlof Volcano erupting on Friday, with ash, steam and gas plume. The eruption began on Monday last week, and has thinned since then. Pavlof is among the most active volcanoes in the Aleutian arc, with nearly 40 known eruptions, the observatory says. The volcano last erupted in 2007.May 21, 2013
