Pachyderm prayers
A mahout and his elephant bow their heads yesterday at the Gangarama temple in Colombo, Sri Lanka. More than 50 elephants, most of them from the hill country of Kandy, 100km west of Colombo, and thousands of traditional drummers, dancers and monks have gathered in the Sri Lankan capital to participate in the city's annual Buddhist Navam procession, which started yesterday and continues today.
