EU lifts sanctions on Myanmar

PREMATURE?The decision came after a Human Rights Watch report said authorities were complicit in ethnic violence, but Aung San Suu Kyi advised not linking the issues

New York-based Human Rights Watch said security forces were complicit in disarming Rohingya Muslims of makeshift weapons and standing by, or even joining in, as Rakhine Buddhist mobs killed men, women and children in June and October last year.

Burmese presidential spokesman and Deputy Minister of Information Ye Htut dismissed the report, saying it only took news from “one side” in a statement on his Facebook page.
