Recent polls said the elections were unlikely to produce a clear winner. An opposition party led by Hashim Thaci, who commanded rebel fighters in the 1998-1999 war with Serbia, was favored to win the most votes.
If poll predictions hold true, it would be the first time that Kosovo's largest political party, the League of Democratic Kosovo, would lose elections.
