Parts of central Mexico were rattled by a moderate earthquake of between 5.4 and 5.7 magnitude early yesterday, authorities said, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage.
The temblor was centered in the Pacific coast state of Guerrero, near the resort city of Acapulco, said the US Geological Survey in Golden, Colorado, which measured the intensity at 5.4.
Mexico's National Seismological Service placed the epicenter in the same general area, but reported the intensity of the quake -- which hit just after midnight in Central Mexico -- as 5.7.
Authorities in Acapulco reported a minor gas leak.
