ORF did not pay Kampusch for the interview, but it sold international media rights to the broadcast, her media adviser, Dietmar Ecker, said in an interview with Reuters. The proceeds will go into a fund for her, the adviser said in the interview. Ratings for the broadcast were expected to set records in Austria.
Christoph Feurstein, the ORF correspondent who conducted the interview, said he submitted questions in advance to Kampusch and her advisers, and that she chose which ones to answer.
"They didn't forbid me from asking any questions, but they advised me what she would discuss," Feurstein said.
"Of course, there are many questions we'd like to ask, but we can't," he said.
