Taiwanese orchids will blend into this year's Canadian Tulip Festival in Ottawa from May 4-22, the world's largest tulip festival.
Chang Hsin-hsiung (張新雄), director of the Science and Technology Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Canada, said the orchids will not only speak for Taiwan's agricultural technology but increase Canadian and international awareness of Formosa, "the beautiful island."
Under the auspices of local Taiwanese community groups such as the Taiwanese-Canadian Association, Taiwanese orchids as well as folk culture will be featured in a Taiwan Hall, Taiwan Day activities, a flower and design show, and a flower boats parade.
The Taiwan Hall will be part of International Friendship Village activities, a festival highlight.
