The US invaded Haiti in 1994 and restored Aristide to power. He lost an election in 1996 election but won in 2000.
Haiti's interim government recently confirmed dates for the first elections since Aristide left power, including presidential elections to be held in two rounds on Nov. 13 and Dec. 18.
