Bashir was testifying at his own trial in Jakarta when the Marriott blast occurred.
After the Bali bombings the government rushed through anti-terror regulations which provide the basis for the charges against Amrozi and the other accused.
The breakthrough arrest of Amrozi on Nov. 5 came after a joint team of Indonesian and international detectives traced a part from the destroyed van used in the Sari Club bombing.
That part led back to Amrozi, the Mitsubishi van's last owner.
The arrest of other suspects quickly followed but have not been enough to break the JI organization, analysts say.
Further killings would probably not bother Amrozi, who never expressed remorse for slaughtering tourists.
He has said he was not afraid of a death sentence, and that the Bali bombings targeted "dens of vices" set up by the US and the Jews.
"For the foreigners, I said, you have learned your lesson," he commented at his trial.
