Allies make case for Taiwan

STAFF WRITER

The nation's allies continued speaking for Taiwan's representation in the UN, although the issue had failed to be listed on the agenda of the 57th UN General Assembly, which opened Tuesday. In his speech delivered in the general debate of the UN General Assembly Thursday, Paraguayan President Luis Angel Gonzalez Macchi said that the representation of the ROC on Taiwan should be considered in terms of the principle of universality. At the same occasion, Panamanian President Mireya Moscoso and President of Sao Tome and Principe Fradique de Menezes also urged the UN to consider Taiwan's representation. Guatemalan President Alfonso Portillo Cabrera expressed his support for Taiwan's bid to join the international organization, asserting that all countries should have full representation in the UN without discrimination.
