Group protests for bid

STAFF WRITER

Members of a delegation from Taiwan performed in the square in front of the headquarters of the UN in New York on Friday to help drum up support for the island's bid to join the UN. The 288-member delegation was mainly composed of members of an Aboriginal arts and cultural troupe, a youth symphony orchestra and a children's dance troupe. Their lively and dynamic performance attracted many passing people. The performance came after the latest setback to Taiwan's UN bid. On Wednesday discussion of the issue was not included on the UN General Assembly agenda. Taiwan has vowed that it will not be deterred by the 10th consecutive failure, adding that to gain UN membership is a long-term goal, and the major task now is to let Taiwan's voice continue to be heard around the world.
