Outgoing Examination Yuan President Hsu Shui-teh (徐水德) said yesterday that he will continue to do his best for the country after he assumes his new post as chairman of the Association of East Asian Relations (AEAR) on Sept. 2. Hsu's six-year tenure as chief of the Examination Yuan will expire and he will formally hand over his duties to his successor, Yao Chia-wen (姚嘉文), on Sept. 1. The following day, he will take up his new post as AEAR chairman, a post that has been vacant for several months since the death of former chairman Chuang Ming-yao (莊銘耀). Hsu, 71, has previously served as Kaohsiung mayor, interior minister and the representative to Japan.
