Diplomacy: Chilean lawmaker arrives

Jorge Tarud Daccarett, president of the Commission of Foreign Relations of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile, arrived in Taipei yesterday afternoon for a five-day visit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release. Accompanied by his wife, Tarud will call on Legislative Yuan Vice President Chiang Ping-kun (江丙坤), Secretary-General to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Thomas Cheng (鄭天授), Government Information Office Deputy Director-General Frederic Chang (張平男) and other government officials, the ministry said. The Taruds will also visit several cultural and economic establishments around the country before wrapping up their trip to Taiwan on Aug. 16, the press release said.
