Vice President Annette Lu (§f¨q½¬) met yesterday with the founder of the US Women's Business Development Center, Hedy Ratner, who praised the achievements of Taiwanese women's rights activists. Ratner said there has never been a woman vice president in the history of the US; therefore, Taiwan can be said to be leading the way in this regard. The vice president said the US has served as a tutor for her when it comes to women's rights issues, because her idea of protecting these rights was first formed during her time in the US. "Now Taiwan women's rights are considerably respected, and more and more women are becoming successful in politics," Lu said, adding that she felt quite satisfied with the situation.
