The 13th annual "30-hour famine" will be held in eastern Taiwan today, World Vision Taiwan, sponsor of the campaign, said yesterday. World Vision officials said that this year's activity will kick off at Hualien County Stadium today, with participants experiencing what it is really like to go hungry. Chen Wei-chi, Hualien director of World Vision Taiwan, said that the group has promoted the "30-hour famine" campaign every year and invites Taiwan people to take part in the fast, so that they can learn more about world hunger. World Vision Taiwan said that every two seconds a child dies in the Third World from hunger and it expressed the hope that those who take part in the fast will donate the money they save by not eating to charity.
