Taiwan won three gold medals, one silver and one bronze at the 2002 International Physics Olympiad in Bali, Indonesia, officials at the Ministry of Education said yesterday. A total of 296 high school students from 67 countries took part in the nine-day physics contest, which ended yesterday. The three gold medals went to Kao Hsien-ching (高憲慶), Liu Yu-sheng (劉于聖) and Lee Hung-hsi (李鴻禧) of Chien Kuo Senior High School in Taipei. The silver medal was won by Lin Sheng-hsuan (林聖軒) from Taichung First Senior High School, while the bronze medal was given to Chen Chien-yu (陳建宇), also from Chien Kuo Senior High School. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Chien Maw-fa (簡茂發), president of National Taiwan Normal University, announced that Taiwan will host next year's olympiad from July 12 to July 21.
