Control Yuan to probe fiasco

STAFF WRITER

The Control Yuan yesterday decided to investigate whether the Ministry of Education was responsible for the mistakes made in the allocation of freshman students to the nation's high schools, vocational schools and junior colleges. Control Yuan members Chao Chang-ping (趙昌平) and Lin Jiang-tsai (林將財) asked permission to probe the fiasco and have been given approval by the Control Yuan to start the investigation. Chao said that the first step of the investigation will be to clarify whether human error or the student-allocation system itself was responsible for the fiasco. Errors were found on the lists that allocate students to certain schools. The lists were made public last Wednesday. Several high schools in Taipei and Kaohsiung districts found that the number of students allocated to them was less than the number of vacancies. Chen Te-hua (陳德華), director of the ministry's Technological and Vocational Education Department, was the first ministry official to be punished for the mistakes.
