Postal rates for international letters and parcels will be higher beginning on Thursday, the Directorate General of Posts said yesterday. Postal rates for international parcels to 35 nations will be adjusted. But the rate of the increase will vary according to destination. The Directorate General of Posts said international rates, which were last raised in 1986, were being adjusted to account for higher transportation and labor costs. The directorate also said that in some cases it might be cheaper to use an express mail service than the government-run service. For example, a 7.5kg parcel to the US would cost NT$2,460, while an express mail service charges NT$2,430. For more information about the rate increases, see the directorate's Web site at www.post.gov.tw.
