DPP Legislator Tsai Chi-fang (蔡啟芳) yesterday accused state-run China Steel of overcharging in defiance of the government's efforts to vitalize the economy. Tsai told a news conference that the corporation is overcharging its clients, some of whom were forced out of business. He noted that Taiwan exported 3.8 million tonnes of steel to China last year but China Steel chairman Kao Yen-tu (郭炎土) maintains the country has an insufficient supply of steel. Tsai claimed that the company has contributed to the closure of several steel processors by manipulating the steel market. He then demanded that Kao step down to shoulder the blame for the steel shortage.
