The Tainan County Government will join forces with the private sector to push for the construction of an international airport in Chiku township and a free-trade zone near the planned airport, Tainan Magistrate Su Huan-chih said yesterday. Su made the remarks while speaking at a preparatory meeting called by the Tainan county government to discuss details concerning the formation of a special committee in charge of promoting the facilities in southern Taiwan. Premier Yu Shyi-kun has agreed to re-evaluate the construction of a second international airport in southern Taiwan within six months, Su said, adding that he will seek cooperation with the private sector to push for the project.
