A TSU official called on the DPP yesterday to play a leading role in the formation of the cross-party "alliance for national stabilization" proposed by President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁). "Only with the DPP playing a key role can the planned cross-party alliance contribute toward stabilizing the domestic political situation and speeding up Taiwan's economic development," TSU Spokesman Hsiao Kuan-yu (蕭貫譽) said. "The general public has become fed up with the incessant partisan wrangling over the years," Hsiao said, adding that political instability, caused by the continued internal war of attrition, has had an adverse effect on foreign investment. Hailing the proposed cross-party alliance as a positive mechanism for stabilizing the domestic political situation, Hsiao stressed that the TSU will fully support the proposal and assist the DPP in forming the alliance.
