Lawmakers target textiles

STAFF WRITER

Two DPP legislators filed a complaint with the Control Yuan accusing a government-funded association of lobbying local companies to invest in China. Tang Huo-sheng (湯火聖) and Lin Yu-sheng (林育生) said a lack of supervision from the Legis-lative Yuan has allowed the Taiwan Textile Federation (紡織拓展會) to lobby for investment on behalf of China, in violation of the law. The legislators also accused the federation's managers of violating accounting regula-tions by reversing the approval procedures. The managers reportedly stamped their seals on blank vouchers and then asked their subordinates to stamp other required seals, the legislators said. Control Yuan member Li You-chi (李友吉) promised to launch an investigation into the allegations. The federation was established in 1975 with government funding and donations from the textile industry. It provides the local textile company with market information and assists with applications for export licenses.
