Police seized 52kg of amphetamines yesterday and detained a suspect in Kaohsiung, according to Investigation Bureau officials. The officials said a task force consisting of members of several law enforcement agencies in Taipei and Kaohsiung have been working since March on a tip-off that Chen Cheng-ming (陳正明) was trafficking drugs. He allegedly used the premise of taking "family trips" with his wife and children -- who were allegedly unaware of his smuggling -- when he was actually moving the drugs. After gathering enough surveillance material, the police apprehended Chen's vehicle during one of his family tours and found 20kg of amphetamines covered in tea. The police then proceeded to his house, where they seized another 32kg of the drug.
