A Council of Labor Affairs consultation team came out yesterday against appeals from employers to allow them to have overlapping employment periods for foreign caregivers. The team discussed the request at a meeting presided over by CLA Vice Chairman Kuo Chi-jen (郭吉仁), reaching a conclusion that was to be submitted for the CLA's reference when it formulates policy. Existing regulations require that caregivers who have completed their contracts in Taiwan must leave the country before their replacements can arrive in Taiwan, prompting complaints from employers that their lives are disrupted by having a gap between an old caregiver leaving and a new one arriving.
