China executes two men

STAFF WRITER

China has executed two Taiwanese citizens convicted of drug dealing in the southern province of Guangdong, a court official said yesterday. The People's Intermediate Court in Guangdong's Dongguan city ordered the execution of Huang Ching-guo, 46, and Huang Chi-fu, 51, on Tuesday after sentencing them to death for drug dealing and other offenses, the official said. Police caught the two men trying to sell 29kg of heroin in Dongguan in June 2000, local media said. The men were also found in possession of three home-made revolvers and a hunting rifle. They were convicted of stealing 25kg of metamphetamines, or "ice," at gunpoint in March 2000. Prosecutors said the two men from Taiwan and an accomplice from China sold most of the drugs for 500,000 yuan (US$60,600) and used the proceeds to buy heroin in the provincial capital of Guangzhou.
