Floods stop motorcade

STAFF WRITER

Due to heavy rainfall in the central mountain area, a motorcade of 28 jeeps became stuck in the upstream valley of the Choshui River (濁水溪) yesterday. Rescuers were unable to enter the valley to help because of flooding. More than 60 adults and children from the motorcade have tried to go on to Wuchie (武界). Sources said that the people were not in immediate danger. According to the Fire Department, Nantou County, the group was camping in Jenai township (仁愛鄉), upstream from the Choshui River. The fire department received calls for help from the motorcade Tuesday night. A weather front which arrived Tuesday has inundated the central mountain area with heavy rainfall. As of 8pm yesterday, Shang Ku-kuan (上谷關) in that region had received the most rainfall over the last two days, a total of 243mm. Nantou's A-mei (阿眉) had received 211.5mm.
