Plane struck by lightning

STAFF WRITER

A Far East Air Transport Corp plane carrying 32 passengers and crew was hit by lightning yesterday but managed to land at its destination, the Tainan Airport, according to the Taipei-based airline. The Boeing 757-200 landed successfully at around 8am, after being hit by lightning on its right wing, an airline spokesman said. Although the lightning caused slight damage to the aircraft, all aboard were safe. The plane was sent for repair following the incident, while 120 Taipei-bound travelers scheduled to travel on the aircraft's return trip were transferred to a Trans Asia Airways flight. The airport was closed briefly that morning due to heavy rain.
