Two Taiwanese officers are taking the 17th Executive Course at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies under the Hawaii-based US Pacific Command. This is the first time that Taiwanese officers have taken part in the 12-week-long course, according to center spokeswoman Kathryn Ingram. Some 73 senior military and government representatives from 33 countries in the Asia-Pacific region are participating in the course. Due to the US government's adherence to the "one China" principle, however, the two officers are not allowed to wear their military uniforms and are being addressed as "Misters," instead of "Sirs."
