The police said yesterday that a fugitive, Hsueh Chiu (薛球), and his gang blackmailed a local gangster in Linkou (林口), Taipei County a few days ago, getting away with millions. According to the police, the gang was comprised of more than ten men and was allegedly led by Hsueh and Chen Yi-hua (陳益華). Hsueh is accused of being to be the mastermind behind the kidnapping of Taichung City Council Vice Speaker Chang Hung-nien (張宏年) on Oct. 1 last year. Chang was released a few days after being abducted. The police said that Hsueh and his gang followed the Linkou gangster to a restaurant on Yangmingshan and told him that if he failed to "provide some financial support," they would open fire. Officers said that Hsueh and his followers got away with a "couple of million dollars."
