The Chinese-Paraguayan Buddhist Light Hospital in Paraguay, sponsored by Taiwan to serve the poor and disabled, was formally inaugurated on May 10, officials said yesterday. Paraguayan first lady Susana Galli de Gonzalez Macchi hosted the event for President Luis Angel Gonzalez Macchi. Nearly 600 guests attended, including local Paraguayan officials, members of the diplomatic corps and local citizens. The ceremony was held in the hospital located in Don Bosco, a village 7km from Eastern City. On behalf of the government, Taiwanese Ambassador to Paraguay Yen Bing F. contributed US$20,000 to the hospital for the purchase of medical equipment.
