Panama supports WHO bid

STAFF WRITER

The Panama Legislative Assembly adopted a resolution recently to support Taiwan's bid to join the WHO as an observer. The resolution, proposed by seven members of the Legislative Assembly's Public Health and Social Security Committee, received co-signatures from 33 legislative assemblymen -- forming a majority in the 71-seat parliament. The resolution stressed that all mankind has the right to fully enjoy good health. It said that Taiwan has successfully lowered birth and infant mortality and has eradicated such diseases as malaria, cholera, smallpox and polio. Taiwan was the first Asia-Pacific nation to eradicate polio, the resolution added.
