Singaporean soldiers injured

Eleven Singaporean officers and soldiers being trained in Taiwan were injured after the truck they boarded overturned in an exercise. Footage of cable television station TVBS showed some Singapore servicemen clad in camouflage being treated at the Chishan Hospital in Kaohsiung County, but doctors said none of the injured were in critical condition. The television station said several others were treated in two other hospitals. Central News Agency put the total number of injured at 11. It said the event happened at noon when a Singaporean military truck flipped over on a remote country road near Chishan, a town in Kaohsiung County. It was not immediately clear if human error or mechanical failure had resulted in the injuries. The Singapore military unit declined to talk to local reporters, apparently following the Singapore government's low-key official line on the existing military links with Taiwan.
