Minister of Transportation and Communications Lin Lin-san (林陵三) departed for the US yesterday for an eight-day visit. Lin is scheduled to deliver two speeches, on transportation construction and cross-strait relations and on the development of telecommunications in Taiwan during his stay in Washington. He will also call on the headquarters of Federal Express in an attempt to persuade it to increase its investment in Taiwan, and on United Airlines to convince the company to make Taiwan its repair and maintenance center in the West Pacific region. He will then travel to Chicago to learn more about the post-Sept. 11 US emergency system. He will also visit Orange County in California to meet with overseas Chinese before returning May 19.
