Taiwan adds name to labels

STAFF WRITER

Agricultural products that have been improved by technical missions from Taiwan will begin bearing the nation's name so that the accomplishments will be imprinted in the minds of people throughout the world, Taiwan's foreign minister said Sunday. Minister of Foreign Affairs Eugene Chien (簡又新) said at a dinner banquet in the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa with overseas Chinese groups residing in Honduras that he will inform all 40 technical missions around the globe to implement the naming scheme so that their efforts will be recognized. Therefore, Chien added that in the future, watermelons developed by ROC technical missions will be renamed "Taiwan watermelons," and other such products will likewise be renamed to include the nation's name, including "Taiwan star fruits," "Taiwan rice," "Taiwan mouthbreeders" and "Taiwan prawns."
