Paving the way for cooperation with the KMT in the 2004 presidential election, some PFP legislators are planning to promote heavyweight Liu Sung-pan's (¼BªQÿ) bid to become the party's second vice chairman. Legislators led by Liu Wen-hsiung (¼B¤å¶¯) and Hsieh Chang-chieh (Á³¹±¶) are expected to raise the proposal during the PFP's first national congress, which is scheduled for June. Liu Wen-hsiung said that, as cooperation will be inevitable for the KMT and PFP if they want to win the next presidential election, there is a need for both parties to increase their interaction in order to foster a friendly climate for cooperation.
