Salvadoran President Francisco Flores received Minister of Foreign Affairs Eugene Chien (簡又新) at the Presidential Office Thursday and exchanged views on matters of mutual concern. Flores welcomed Chien's visit, conveyed his regards to President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) and promised to support Taiwan's bids for membership in the WHO and other international organizations. Taiwan's minister of foreign affairs, for his part, praised Flores for his achievements in leading El Salvador's development and helping to create a country with a stable government and a prosperous economy. The minister of foreign affairs also recognized Flores' efforts to join hands with other peace-loving countries in countering terrorism. Also present were Salvadoran Foreign Minister Maria Brizuela, Taiwan Ambassador to El Salvador Ho Ping-fu and Javier Ho, director-general of the the Foreign Ministry's Central and South American Affairs Department.
